After entering the school, I was struck by the uniqueness of the people who attended Waseda and wanted to help them interact with each other. I also felt that the form of work, working while reflecting on ideas through event management, was a perfect fit for me.<\/p>\n

In the spring of my first year at the university, I saw that almost half of the women in my classes were international students and that foreign languages were spoken on campus. I strongly felt that Waseda University provides education to students of various nationalities and that the university itself is a place for cultural exchange. On campus, I saw not only the diversity of nationalities, but also glimpses of differences in religious beliefs. While there is a limit to the number of people you can meet through personal connections alone, through the ICC organization, it is possible to interact with people who have lived in the cultures you are interested in. I have come to want to work as an SSL at ICC, which can serve as a platform for students to connect their interests with each other.<\/p>\n

People with diverse backgrounds come to ICC. Not only in interaction with event participants and lounge visitors, but also talking with other student staff and staff members who work with me, I am fortunate to be exposed to a truly diverse range of ideas. I find great satisfaction in the sense of expanding my inner diversity in this way. I would like everyone who is reading this article to experience this feeling as well.<\/p>\n

I believe that the “sense of discomfort” I feel when interacting with people around me is the gateway to cross-cultural understanding. If you continue to feel that sense of discomfort and continue to engage in conversation with curiosity, you may experience a change in your inner thoughts.
