Do you know the Japanese traditional card game <\/span>Karuta<\/i>?<\/span><\/p>\n

You may have heard about karuta from the anime movie \u201cChihayafuru\u201d. Some may have memorized \u201cHyakunin Isshu\u201d in school.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What\u2019s your impression of karuta? You might think that it is played on special occasions such as New Year’s Day, but something you don’t usually see in daily life. And international students might not have many chances to learn and play it.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

ICC will hold Karuta Night with the cooperation of Japan Life and Language Support Organization<\/a> (LJ). In this event, you can play \u201cNihon Karuta\u201d made by LJ and even make your own karuta!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNihon Karuta\u201d is the karuta for everyone! Even if you don\u2019t know kanji, Hyakunin Isshu, or the rules of karuta, it doesn\u2019t matter! Just knowing hiragana is enough.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

You can also take home the karuta you made during the event as a keepsake!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Great East Earthquake in March 2011 was <\/span>the<\/span> motivation to establish this organization. <\/span>LJ<\/span> strongly believe<\/span>s<\/span> in <\/span>its<\/span> mission statement, \u201cLive Together, Learn Together,\u201d and <\/span>is<\/span> always there to help you to overcome any difficulties.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
