Have you ever thought about the different cultures behind works of art?<\/p>\n

Why does the Kannon on the back of a dragon seem so Western, even though it is an Eastern painting?<\/p>\n

Why was a seemingly ordinary landscape painting considered a masterpiece in its time?<\/p>\n

ICC is pleased to offer the opportunity to figure out the answers to these questions through our first two-day program held online and in-person!<\/p>\n

The late 19th and early 20th centuries were a turbulent time for the entire world, a time that opened up new avenues of artistic expression in every country. In Japan, which was already modernizing, artists such as Shunso Hishida and Naojiro Harada sought to combine traditional Japanese sense of beauty and subject matter with Western sensibilities and techniques to develop super-regional and timeless expressions.<\/p>\n

This event will start with an online appreciation session by chatting on Day One, followed by a visit to The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, on Day Two, to view its collection and learn how Japanese people understood different cultures and how people exchanged their ideas in the 19th century and beyond.<\/p>\n

You will not be alone, but will be able to appreciate works of art while interacting and exchanging thoughts with other students from different cultural backgrounds!<\/p>\n
