K-dramas, cosmetics, Korean food. It seems that Korean culture is causing a phenomenon again these days. It goes without saying that K-pop is at the center of this Korean Wave.<\/span><\/p>\n

K-pop’s global status is increasing day by day, with many musical artists doing world tours and topping the music charts.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the midst of all this, have you ever wondered:
\n<\/span>\u00b7Why are people all over the world fascinated by K-pop?
\n<\/span>\u00b7What is it about K-pop that attracts people all over the world?
\n<\/span>\u00b7How did K-pop gain popularity in the global market?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

ICC will hold a K-pop Night with Mr. Masayuki Furuya, a K-pop journalist, as a guest to answer those questions!<\/span><\/p>\n

In particular, we will focus on K-pop’s marketing and talk about the strategies and how K-pop succeeded in entering the global market.<\/span><\/p>\n

After the lecture, we will also have social time where participants can talk about K-pop.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It’s an opportunity for students from all backgrounds to learn about K-pop and meet people who have the same interests!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Mr.<\/span> Masayuki Furuya<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

    Radio DJ, Television VJ, MC, K-pop journalist<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Born in Hokkaido in 1974. After graduating university he studied abroad in both Canada and Korea.\u00a0<\/span>Upon returning to Japan, he earned a Master\u2019s degree in Journalism from Sophia University.<\/span><\/p>\n

    In 2000, he began introducing K-pop to a Japanese audience as a DJ on Japan\u2019s first special K-pop program \u201cBeats of Korea\u201d on Sapporo\u2019s Northwave FM radio station.\u00a0<\/span>In 2004 he was the first Japanese person to be a VJ on MTV Korea\u2019s J-pop program \u201cJ-BEAT.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>In 2008 he was honored with a commission from the Korea Tourism Organization as a tourism ambassador, and in 2009 he received the Order of Cultural Merit from the Korean government for his contributions to the popularization of K-Pop in Japan.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Currently he works as representative director of the K-pop label \u201cOld House Co. Ltd.\u201d as well as a radio DJ, TV VJ and event MC including NHK R1\u201dFuruya Masayuki\u2019s POP\u2605A,\u201d NHK R2 \u201dRadio Korean lecture,\u201d NHK \u201d<\/span>Hangul! Navi,<\/span><\/i>\u201d NORTHWAVE \u201dColors Of Korea,” TV Aichi \u201d<\/span>Furuya Masaki no Hanryu Class,<\/span><\/i>\u201d Mnet \u201d<\/span>M Tane BANG!<\/span><\/i>\u201d and BS Fuji \u201dMUSIC LIST ~What is OST.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

    In May, he released his first translated picture book<\/span> in collaboration with his wife Mina Furuya, \u201dWhy Dad came home last night\u201d (Iwasaki Bookstore).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
