However, humanity has sent many expeditioners and researchers who have grand dreams and fight the elements of this unique continent. It is also different because of having no national borders, since the Antarctica Treaty was established, prescribing peaceful use and freezing territorial claims, in 1961.

ICC has planned an event with Gen Hashida, leader of the 62nd Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition, to look at the allure and international situation surrounding Antarctica.

As a member of the Expedition, Dr. Hashida has experienced life in Antarctica and been a researcher in the field of polar marine biogeochemistry. We will hear the inside story about the reality of Antarctica and observation work there, as only someone like Dr. Hashida who has actually experienced it can share.

Researchers from various fields are involved in scientific work in Antarctica, requiring multifaceted knowledge of international law and environmental issues. This is a priceless chance to learn about intercultural experiences from a different angle!

If you have an interest in Antarctica, or just want to learn about an unknown world and intercultural understanding, please sign up!

*If you need accommodations such as reading material in advance or computer note-taking, or other assistance, please fill in the form below and return it to us by May 14th (Fri.). If you wish to apply after that date, please contact us to discuss the situation. We will do our best to accommodate you.
*The accommodations such as speech-to-text interpretation or sign-language interpretation are supported by Waseda Supporters Club (WSC) Members Fund.

Date/Time

June 4th, 2021 (Fri.) 6:15pm-7:45pm (opens at 6:00pm)

Place

Online (Zoom webinar), URL will be sent to participants by the day before the event.

Eligibility

Waseda Students, Faculty & Staff, and Genreral Public

Language

Japanese（Q&A session in Japanese and English）

Fee

Free

Registration

Required.
