Have any of you heard this phrase before?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

These are the words of Mr. Haruaki Deguchi, President of\u00a0<\/span>Ritsumeikan<\/span>\u00a0Asia Pacific University, who has visited<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a01200 cities around the world, read over 10,000 books and is uncommon as a traveler<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cA Complete History of Philosophy and Religion\u201d, \u201cReal Strength at 60 Years Old\u201d, \u201cWorldwide History\u201d, etc. are just some of the bestsellers that Mr. Deguchi has produced and you\u2019ve probably glimpsed them in many bookshops before.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Now, the Student Diversity Center is working together to create a special talk session and has invited Mr. Deguchi as the guest speaker!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat is the secret to having a more fulfilling student life for students living in this era of Coronavirus?\u201d<\/span>
\n\u201cWhat are the attitudes we need to create a society filled with diversity where everyone can live their life with the satisfaction of being themselves?\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

These two themes will be covered deeply by Mr. Deguchi\u2019s talk.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There are many students who have had to cancel their study abroad plans, seen their club activities disappear and the campus life they pictured confronted with the very different reality because of the Coronavirus.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In this situation, what ways of thinking and actions should we\u00a0<\/span>prioritise<\/span>\u00a0in order to give meaning to this irreplaceable time when we are students?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
\nFurthermore, what attitudes do we need to place importance on for the future of this society that will\u00a0soon<\/span>\u00a0become our responsibility.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cStanding on the shoulders of giants\u201d,\u00a0<\/span>let’s<\/span>\u00a0spend some time thinking about the future of ourselves and our society.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u25c6Guest Profile: President DEGUCHI Haruaki (Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University)\u25c6<\/h5>\n

Deguchi Haruaki was inaugurated as the 4th President of APU on January 1, 2018.
\nMr. Deguchi is the cofounder of Lifenet Insurance, the first independent Japanese insurance company created in 74 years. He served as President and Managing Director from the company\u2019s founding in 2006 until 2013, when he became Chairman and CEO. Previously, Mr. Deguchi held various roles with Nippon Life Insurance Company in a career that spanned nearly 35 years, including president of the company\u2019s London-based subsidiary and general manager of the international business division.
\nHe holds a degree from the Faculty of Law at Kyoto University. <\/span><\/p>\n
