Grad. School of Humanities and Social Sciences). Ms. Akutsu\u2019s presentation will focus on the dhimmi (non-Muslim citizens of an Islamic state), particularly those presumed to be non-elites, as shown in sharia court records from the city of Bursa under the Ottomans in the early 16th century. Cognizant of that non-elite perspective, Akutsu will analyze and investigate sharia court documents dealing with issues of matrimony and personal injury. We look forward to a large attendance.
