The respective project research institutes conduct research activities using external funds as well as research funds contributed by participating faculty members. Three types of research are funded by external funding: contract research, joint research, and designated research donations.

Contract Research and Joint Research

Contract research is carried out upon the commission of external parties including corporations, organizations, and individuals. The funds required in such research are borne by the commissioning party. Decisions on the research proposal, duration, expenses, and researchers will be made based on the “Request to Conduct Research/Study” form, and research will commence after the contract has been concluded.

Flow of procedures leading to the commencement of contract research

1.Application
Please fill out the “Request to Conduct Research/Study” form upon review of details such as field research proposals and expenses.
2.Submission
Please sign and seal the “Request to Conduct Research/Study” form, and submit it to Office for the Organization for University Research Initiatives.
(If an official contract is required, please attach a proposed contract.)
3.Decision on acceptance
Approval for the contract for the research will be granted by the Steering Committee of the Organization for University Research Initiatives.
4.Conclusion of contract
5.Payment of research fund
Upon conclusion of the contract, the contract, invoices, and other documents will be sent to the requestor.
6.Report of results

Designated Research Donations

Designated research is a system whereby donations from corporations, organizations, or individuals to the project research institutes are utilized as research funds. Starting from May 2001, a system has been established in all research institutes to allow for designated research funds from corporations to be declared as losses.

Flow of procedures leading to the commencement of designated research

1.Application
Please fill out the “Donation Form.” After signing and sealing the form, please hand it to the person in charge for the project institute.
2. Submission
After the “Donation Form” has been verified at the project research institute, please submit it to the Office for the Organization for University Research Initiatives.
3.Bank transfer
Please transfer the donation to the designated bank account using the “Funds Transfer Form.”
4.Delivery of receipt
A thank you letter, tax deduction certificate (copy), and receipt will be delivered to the donor.
