The program will serve as a catalyst for female Japanese students interested in S&amp;E study and research and engagement with the U.S. through international research collaborations. The program dates will be February 16 &#8211; March 24, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>To be eligible to apply students must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be at least 18 years old;<\/li>\n<li>Be a Japanese citizen or permanent resident;<\/li>\n<li>Be a female, currently-enrolled, degree-seeking undergraduate student in good academic standing at a Japanese institution of higher education;<\/li>\n<li>Be majoring in a science or engineering field and interested in conducting research in an academic department within Rice\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.rice.edu\/academics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">School of Engineering<\/a> or a related\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.rice.edu\/centers-institutes-and-research-groups\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Research Center or Group<\/a>\u00a0 or within an academic department within the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/naturalsciences.rice.edu\/academics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">School of Natural Sciences<\/a> or a related\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/naturalsciences.rice.edu\/research\/labs-centers-and-institutes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Research Center or Group<\/a><\/li>\n<li>At the time of application, be a B1, B2, B3, or B4 student*<\/li>\n<li>Be able to express a demonstrated interest in international science &amp; engineering research &amp; future graduate study in your field;<\/li>\n<li>Have the <a href=\"http:\/\/tomodachistem.rice.edu\/resources\/english-language-resources\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">conversational English-language ability<\/a> to successfully conduct research in a U.S. university lab.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Funding:<\/em> The program provides funding for international airfare, lodging in Houston (double-occupancy), all seminar and internship related costs, some cultural outings, travel\/lodging for final week Science Technology &amp; Leadership study tour on the East Coast, and international health insurance.
