{"id":11859,"date":"2017-01-11T09:21:12","date_gmt":"2017-01-11T00:21:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/cie\/?p=11859"},"modified":"2017-05-22T11:06:28","modified_gmt":"2017-05-22T02:06:28","slug":"waseda-helps-bridge-canada-and-japan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/cie\/news-en\/11859","title":{"rendered":"Waseda helps \u201cbridge\u201d Canada and Japan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-47550 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/top\/assets\/uploads\/2016\/12\/DSC_0270-610x407.jpg\" alt=\"Touring the Waseda campus\" width=\"610\" height=\"407\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On December 14, Waseda University hosted a visit by a group of international affairs graduate students from Canada, on a government-sponsored study trip to Japan.<\/p>\n<p>The students, from the University of Ottawa and Carleton University, were invited as part of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs program &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mofa.go.jp\/na\/na1\/page22e_000748.html\">KAKEHASHI<\/a>&#8220;, meaning &#8220;bridge&#8221;, which promotes mutual trust and understanding as a basis for friendship and cooperation between people in Japan and North America.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-47549 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/top\/assets\/uploads\/2016\/12\/DSC_0261-e1482222667416-610x346.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0261\" width=\"610\" height=\"346\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As part of the program&#8217;s objective to investigate Japanese institutions, the students\u00a0learned about the history and ongoing programs behind\u00a0Waseda&#8217;s status as a key location for international research and education. They also\u00a0spent time with Waseda students, who gave a presentation about the university\u00a0and joined in a lecture and discussion\u00a0about the role of religion in Japanese culture, led by Waseda <a href=\"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/cie\/en\/center\/faculty\">Professor Paul B.
