[Japanese only]<\/p>\n<h5>Others<\/h5>\n<p><strong>Q01 Who is eligible for the Data Science Certification System?<\/strong><br \/>\nA01 Students (full-time students only) enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs at Waseda University from April 2021 onward. Please note that graduates and students taking non-degree courses are not eligible.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q02 What are the certification requirements for each level?<br \/>\nQ03 Which courses are included at each level?<\/strong><br \/>\nA02\u30fb03 Please check <a href=\"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/gec\/assets\/uploads\/2025\/02\/GEC-courseguide.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the GEC course guide<\/a>. [Japanese only]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q04 What is the certification process?<\/strong><br \/>\nA04 The process of certification is as follows:<br \/>\nStep 1 Carefully read the GEC course guide<br \/>\nStep 2 Build a course plan<br \/>\nStep 3 Course registration<br \/>\nStep 4 Take the designated courses<br \/>\nStep 5 Apply for certification<br \/>\nStep 6 Acquire the required credits for certification<br \/>\n\u2192Certification of a level that meets the requirements<\/p>\n<p>Once the grades for the spring and fall semesters have been finalized, an &#8220;assessment process&#8221; will be carried out to determine whether the requirements for certification are met. Students who have been successfully certified will be notified via Waseda email. Students who have been notified will receive a certificate from the university&#8217;s certificate issuing machine after the date stated in the email.<\/p>\n<p>\u25c6Completion assessment schedule\u25c6<br \/>\nSpring semester: September (Application deadline: end of July)<br \/>\nFall semester: March (Application deadline: end of January)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q05 Which courses should I take in which semester?<\/strong><br \/>\nA05 Students are free to select the courses they wish to take each semester; thus, please check the syllabus and other documents and register for courses eligible for the Data Science Certification System according to the course registration rules of your faculty or graduate school. If you are studying data science for the first time, please refer to page 8 of <a href=\"https:\/\/indd.adobe.com\/view\/314c3d95-f60e-4763-899c-dca7d442018d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Certification Program in Data Science digital pamphlet<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q06 When should I apply for certification?<\/strong><br \/>\nA06 You can apply for certification at any time through the Center for Data Science&#8217;s Certification System page. Once you have completed the course registration for the subjects that are required for the level for which you are applying for certification, please submit the application. The certification is conducted twice a year. Please check the schedule of the completion of assessment in Q04 and apply by the deadline. You can also apply after the application deadline, but please note that the assessment will be done at the next available evaluation period.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q07 Is it possible to have the credits I earned as an undergraduate student certified after I proceed to graduate school?<\/strong><br \/>\nA07 For courses taken after 2014, you can apply for certification after proceeding to graduate school, including credits earned during undergraduate studies. For example, if you have already obtained intermediate certification as an undergraduate and are applying for advanced certification after proceeding to graduate school, you can include courses taken under your previous student status in the &#8220;Certification Application&#8221; mentioned above. In such cases, when applying for certification, you will have to enter the past student status information (faculty, student ID number, etc.) for which you want to be certified.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q08 If I apply for certification but cannot complete the courses eligible for certification, how will my application be handled?<\/strong><br \/>\nA08 If you applied for certification but have not earned credits for the courses you have taken, there is no need to apply for certification again. Please re-register for the courses required for certification and earn the credits. However, if your student ID number changes after you apply for certification, for example, because you are going on to graduate school, you will have to re-apply for certification.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q09 The courses that are included in the certification requirements are offered in Japanese. Will these courses be offered in English in the future?<\/strong><br \/>\nA09 In AY2024, the following courses will be offered in English: \u201cIntroduction to Data Science \u03b1, \u03b2, \u03b3, \u03b4,\u201d \u201cStatistics Literacy \u03b1, \u03b2, \u03b3, \u03b4,\u201d and \u201cData Science Practice.\u201d Courses already offered in English are also eligible for certification.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q10 My undergraduate or graduate school also offers courses related to data science. Can I substitute these courses for the courses required for certification?<\/strong><br \/>\nA10 The Data Science Certification System for undergraduate and graduate school subjects will be launched in AY2022. For more information, please visit the Certification Program in Data Science website.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q11 Are there data science-related courses that use Python?<\/strong><br \/>\nA11 Courses that use Python include \u201cIntroduction to Data Science \u03b1, \u03b2, \u03b3, and \u03b4.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q12 Are there data science-related courses that use R?<\/strong><br \/>\nA12 We offer \u201cStatistical Analysis with R\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q13 I plan to take the literacy level Introduction to Data Science. Do Introduction to Data Science \u03b1 01, 02, 03, and 04 all have the same content?<\/strong><br \/>\nA13 While these courses start at different times, they have the same content.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q14 Since the classes are online, can I proceed at my own pace and take the test before the deadline?<\/strong><br \/>\nA14 After registering, check the class schedule for the course on Waseda Moodle and follow the schedule<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q15 Are the basic training content of the D-DATa program and the literacy level courses of the Certification Program in Data Science the same?<\/strong><br \/>\nA15 The content taught in the regular courses &#8221; Statistics Literacy \u03b1\/\u03b2&#8221; and &#8220;Introduction to Data Science \u03b1\/\u03b2,&#8221; which are eligible for the Certification Program in Data Science literacy level, is the same as the self-study content provided in the D-DATa program. However, the self-study material does not include tests and cannot be credited. If you want to be certified under the Certification Program in Data Science, we recommend that you consider taking regular courses.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q16 Can I include subjects covered by the Certification Program in Data Science as certified credits even if they are not counted toward graduation? Are only credits that count toward graduation eligible for certification?<\/strong><br \/>\nA16 To be certified under the Certification Program in Data Science, you must have earned credits in the applicable courses, so it does not matter whether the credits count toward graduation or not.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Global Education Center Course Guide Q&amp;A Please check this link.
