{"id":1703,"date":"2016-03-29T17:31:17","date_gmt":"2016-03-29T08:31:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/career\/?p=1703"},"modified":"2017-08-01T10:41:22","modified_gmt":"2017-08-01T01:41:22","slug":"voices-of-our-alumni-1-start-preparing-early","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/career\/other-en\/2016\/03\/29\/1703\/","title":{"rendered":"Voices of our Alumni 1: Start preparing early!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>School :<\/strong>\u00a0School of International Liberal Studies<br \/>\n<strong>Gender :<\/strong>\u00a0Male<br \/>\n<strong>Country :<\/strong>\u00a0Iceland<br \/>\n<strong>Graduated in<\/strong> March 2012<br \/>\n<strong>Jobs offers :<\/strong> Game Software Maker<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reasons for seeking employment in a Japanese corporation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I decided to look for work in Japan for two reasons: 1) The economic situation in my home country has been declining since the 2008 financial crisis, and 2) I wanted to make use of my Japanese ability.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Starting period of job-hunting<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I started my job hunting process in earnest in October 2010 by registering to job hunting sites such as MyNavi and Recruit-Navi.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Number of industries and companies contacted<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I mainly focused on the video games and media industries, and contacted about 15 companies or so.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job-hunting methods<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When looking for companies I mainly focused on those who were actively looking to expand their overseas operations. In order to further tighten my selection, I tried to refrain from applying to companies that had written examinations as a part of their selection process.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Challenges faced during job-hunting<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I did not understand the proper way of answering the questions asked in the entry sheets, which disadvantaged me. As for other things,\u00a0looking back at the whole process I wish I had submitted entry sheets to more companies than I actually did.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Message to students who are planning to seek employment in Japan<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>First and foremost, there are a lot of companies which have written examinations as a part of their selection process, so I will recommend you to start preparing early for those companies which have them.
