PROFILE
Dr. Sugimoto received his undergraduate degree from University of Wisconsin La-Crosse in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in exercise and sports science with athletic training. After completing his bachelor’s degree, he became a certified athletic trainer (ATC) and worked as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Lakeland College (Sheboygan, Wisconsin, USA) and University of Rhode Island. After completing his master’s degree in 2003, he served as a head athletic trainer at Seton Hill University (Greensburg, Pennsylvania, USA) for two years. He then received an appointment as head athletic trainer and adjunct faculty member from the Exercise Science and Sports Studies program at Lakeland College (Sheboygan, Wisconsin, USA) in 2005.
In 2009, Dr. Sugimoto joined a research group at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center Division of Sports Medicine in Cincinnati, OH as a research assistant. At the same time, he was working toward a degree in the rehabilitation science doctoral program at the University of Kentucky. In 2013, he graduated from University of Kentucky with a PhD. After two years of post-doctoral training at The Micheli Center for Sports Injury Prevention and Boston Children’s Hospital Division of Sports Medicine, he received an instructor appointment from Harvard Medical School (Boston, Massachusetts, USA) in 2015. In 2020, he became an associate professor of Sport Sciences program at Waseda University (Tokyo, Japan).
