RESEARCH

Sport is an indispensable part of modern societies, economies and our daily lives. Expectations about the role of sport in society are explanding and include a diverse focus on individual physical fitness, population health promotion, high performance among elite athletes, spectator behavior and consumer engagement. It is anticipated the role of sport in society will continue to evolve, and the Health Promotion Unit of the Faculty of Sport Science aims to be at the cutting edge of research and teaching.

PROGRAM DIVERSITY

The Graduate School was established in order to conduct cutting-edge research and deliver comprehensive evidence-based education in sports studies. Graduate students are offered research guidance in seminars and tutorials and are also able to study advanced, contemporary subjects in sports science and management through interactive lectures. The underlying philosophy of the establishment of this Graduate School is that students should be well prepared to contribute significantly to “the creation of a rich sports culture” through their endeavours across a diversity of areas related to sport.

MESSAGE

The Health and Sport Sciences Unit, administered through the Faculty of Sport Sciences under the SGU project, has been promoting education and research activities internationally since its foundation in 2014. Waseda University is highly acclaimed for its education and research capabilities. The world’s established QS University Rankings for Sports-related Subjects has consistently ranked Waseda in the top 50 (19th in 2017). Through the SGU project, not only do we enhance our global research capabilities by encouraging the Faculty of Sport Sciences students to study abroad, but we also provide high quality lectures in English by inviting top researchers from around the world to our campus. We are also actively accepting excellent students from overseas. We will further strengthen our international collaboration with prestigious overseas universities (such as KU Leuven, Belgium and the German Sport University Cologne, Germany), and lead the world by fully establishing the Health and Sport Sciences model unit as an international hub of education and research by the end of the 2022 fiscal year.
