RESEARCHES

Sports have now come to be indispensable in society and in our daily lives. Social expectations have gathered forsports science not only in terms of playing, but from a variety of aspects, such as the increase in sports enthusiasts including spectators, the social need for improving physical fitness and promoting health, and the improvement of international competitiveness, and the like.

WIDE RANGE OF PROGRAMS

The Graduate School was established in order to conduct research and education in a comprehensive fashion on these various kinds of issues to do with sport. Graduate students not only concentrate on the research guidance seminars they belong to, but are also able to study the most advanced research outcomes related to sports science by taking lectures and seminars in various areas established in the Graduate School. The philosophy of the establishment of this Graduate School is that these students will fly off into society and contribute to “the creation of a rich sports culture” through their great success in various areas related to sport.

MESSAGE

The Health and Sport Sciences Unit, administered through the Faculty of Sport Sciences under the SGU project, has been promoting education and research activities internationally since its foundation in 2014. Waseda University is highly acclaimed for its education and research capabilities. The world’s established QS University Rankings for Sports-related Subjects has consistently ranked Waseda in the top 50 (19th in 2017). Through the SGU project, not only do we enhance our global research capabilities by encouraging the Faculty of Sport Sciences students to study abroad, but we also provide high quality lectures in English by inviting top researchers from around the world to our campus. We are also actively accepting excellent students from overseas. We will further strengthen our international collaboration with prestigious overseas universities (such as KU Leuven, Belgium and the German Sport University Cologne, Germany), and lead the world by fully establishing the Health and Sport Sciences model unit as an international hub of education and research by the end of the 2022 fiscal year.
