He has been working as an economist for the United Nations since 1984, involved mainly in research and policy analysis on transnational corporations and foreign direct investment (FDI), and a lead author of the World Investment Report and other publications on FDI. He obtained B.A. from Waseda University, M.A. from Pennsylvania State University, and M.A. from Waseda University; and completed the doctorate course at Waseda University. Authored or co-authored more than 70 articles and books. Main publications include The Transnational Activities of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (Kluwer Academics Publishers) and articles in major professional journals including the Journal of International Business Studies.
