{"id":7100,"date":"2017-05-29T16:40:22","date_gmt":"2017-05-29T07:40:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/fsss\/sss\/?p=7100"},"modified":"2017-06-06T18:20:27","modified_gmt":"2017-06-06T09:20:27","slug":"transitioning-to-a-new-english-based-degree-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/fsss\/sss\/news-en\/2017\/05\/29\/7100\/","title":{"rendered":"Transitioning to a new English-based degree program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/fsss\/sss\/news\/2017\/05\/29\/7093\/\">\u65e5\u672c\u8a9e\u30d0\u30fc\u30b8\u30e7\u30f3\u306f\u3053\u3061\u3089<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/fsss\/sss\/assets\/uploads\/2017\/05\/TAISI_logo_2-1-e1495790276341.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7097 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/fsss\/sss\/assets\/uploads\/2017\/05\/TAISI_logo_2-1-e1495790276341.jpg\" alt=\"TAISI_logo_2\" width=\"205\" height=\"198\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/nyusi\/ebro\/ug\/sss_TAISI_en_2017\/html5.html\">View the brochure<\/a><\/p>\n<p>From September 2018, the School of Social Sciences\u2019 English-based degree program, the Contemporary Japanese Studies Program (CJSP), will become the Transnational and Interdisciplinary Studies in Social Innovation (TAISI) program.\u00a0 The TAISI program is an expansion of the ideas and principles behind the CJSP curriculum, but with added emphasis on providing students with practical and hands-on experience and on making positive contributions to society.\u00a0 Below are the three main differences between the TAISI program and CJSP.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>\u25a0Three differences between TAISI and CJSP<\/h2>\n<h4>&lt;Point 1&gt;\u3000<strong>More Flexible Admissions Process<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The TAISI program now accepts application for admissions in April or September and has also increased the number of admitted students from 20 to 60 students.\u00a0 Students applying for September Admission can take advantage of our new rolling admission policy.<br \/>\nFor more details on the admission policy, please <a href=\"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/fsss\/sss\/news-en\/2017\/05\/29\/7101\/\">click here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4>&lt;Point 2&gt;\u3000Practical and Experience-driven Curriculum<\/h4>\n<p>The new curriculum provides students with hands-on experience through fieldwork or on-site research courses and internship opportunities in Japan and overseas.\u00a0 Students also gain practical knowledge through classroom stimulations and consideration of case studies.<\/p>\n<h4>&lt;Point 3&gt;\u3000<strong>Focus on creating Social Innovators and Leaders<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Through our curriculum, students receive specialized, interdisciplinary knowledge through the study of four fields which are then divided into three types of courses: Introduction, Field Issues, and Practicum courses.\u00a0 Taking courses in that order trains students to think critically, look at issues from multiple perspectives, and question the current state of global affairs.\u00a0 Such skills are necessary for those who want to become leaders who can discover, develop, and carry out solutions to social issues that are fair, sustainable, effective, and good for society.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>\u25a0<strong>What is the TAISI program?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/nyusi\/ebro\/ug\/sss_TAISI_en_2017\/html5.html\">View the brochure<\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Our Mission<\/h4>\n<p>The TAISI programs hopes to train students to become social innovators who aim to identify and confront a central issue facing global society, find a solution, and in cooperation with those around them make the solution into reality.\u00a0 In this program, students will learn about contemporary Japanese society and look at domestic and international events from the Japanese perspective.\u00a0 Using this knowledge and the practical experiences gained through fieldwork, we hope to create graduates who can take the comprehensive and interdisciplinary knowledge they gained and redefine it in the international context in order to find solutions for social issues such as poverty, conflict, economic disparity, environmental degradation, community collapse, and natural disasters. \u00a0It is in the TAISI program that we hope to create an environment for students from various backgrounds and countries and train them to become internationalized, foreign language speaking global leaders.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Interdisciplinary Studies in Social Innovation (The Four Fields)<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>In TAISI, student gain specialized and interdisciplinary knowledge in one of the following four fields.\u00a0 Along with their studies in the social sciences, humanities, and the natural sciences, students will learn about existing frameworks of thoughts and institutions and develop the ability to look at and find new ways to solve social issues.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Field 01 : Community &amp; Social Development<\/strong><br \/>\nStudy the necessary know-how for making sustainable communities and urban development a reality<\/p>\n<p><strong>Field 02 : Peace Building &amp; International Cooperation<br \/>\n<\/strong>Study how to build a peaceful society and the international cooperation organizations that make it possible from the perspective of peace research<\/p>\n<p><strong>Field 03 : Economic &amp;
