In this presentation, we would like to introduce our joint research work and hope to discuss possible research collaborations with colleagues at WasedaUniversity. The presentation begins with the research focus on East Asian tourism within the current tourism studies context, which is dominated by Western conceptualization of travel and tourism. The talk provides some research outputs to highlight a distinctively East Asian notion of travel and tourism with examples of Chinese, South Korean and European (British, French, Swedish and Norwegian) tourists\u2019 experiences. In the cases of Chinese and Korean tourists\u2019 experiences, Confucian values have significantly affected the ways in which the tourists perceive travel and tourism. This influence has led to some tourism industry relevant outcomes, including tourism policy in South Korea and tourist behaviors of Mainland and Singaporean Chinese tourists. In the case of European tourist experiences, British and French tourists can be grouped together in comparison to the group of Swedish and Norwegian when it comes to their purpose of action in visiting eco-friendly destination. The result further shows that while there is level of differences among European tourists\u2019 motivation to visit eco-friendly destination, they overall display the fundamental difference when compared to East Asian tourist. While East Asian philosophy perceived human and nature as a unity, European concept views human and nature as two separate entities. It is hoped that colleagues at Wasedasee the conspicuous lack of Japanese ontological bases in our current approach, and the identification may lead to a future joint research on contemporary East Asian tourism.<\/p>\n

In this presentation I will examine the way in which recreation is an important space for migrant people to express identity and therefore a potential site to develop a sense of belonging to their new country. Given the backdrop of the demographic situation, that is negative birth rate and an aging population, Japan faces some important decisions in relation to its future and the role that migrants will play in this future. Whilst cricket is a completely minor sport in Japan, it is a major physical and cultural pastime for many migrants, especially those from the India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. This paper considers the big picture of immigration through the individual stories and experiences of people who play cricket in Japan. Through some comparison with Australian experiences of multiculturalism and sport, I pose a series of questions about possible policy direction and strategies that local government and sporting organizations could make in order to play a meaningful role in achieving more harmonious integration of long-term migrants who come to Japan.<\/p>\n

For the past four decades, though with global spread of Chinese martial art, this particular body culture now suffers huge crisis in continuing this cultural heritage. Based on historical documents and combined with my personal practice, this study analyzed current situation and problems in this legacy of immaterial culture of Chinese martial art. Beginning with the introduction on custom of learning martial art in the general public, the communicating process between the governmental organized and private sector martial art is then elaborated. The second part of this study majorly eye on the position of national associations, with the investigation of martial art school, we thus reveal the challenges and limitation for continuing this cultural asset. And by examining current practice of martial art, this study also elaborates the philosophy and concept behind.<\/p>\n
