I was working on Ministry of Agriculture and this ministry is one of the target organizations of JICA PEACE project.\u00a0 After I got the list of Japanese Universities from Peace Project, I started searching Japanese universities on my field of study, but I found that Waseda University is well known university among others.\u00a0 Waseda has many good facilities and also has over 133 years of history in terms education. \u00a0I got very interested in Waseda and tried to get an admission.\u00a0 There was a recommendation from my friend who was also my colleague. \u00a0I got some information from him, too.<\/p>\n
Why did you choose Waseda University?<\/h3>\n

<\/a>Waseda University was very famous and I got recommendations from my friends.<\/p>\nHow did you get information for our program?<\/h3>\n
It was through JICA.\u00a0 Coordinators from JICE and JICA are very nice and they are very helpful. \u00a0Even if it is a small problem or big problem, they help me.<\/p>\n
Did you have any concerns before coming to Japan?<\/h3>\n
I did not have so many worries because we are Asian countries so there will not be so many differences.\u00a0 My concerns were about food, now I do not have any problems at all.\u00a0 After I came here I could find any kind of food here.<\/p>\n
Have you had any difficulties when you started a new life here?<\/h3>\n

<\/a>I think anyone going to a new environment would have some kind of difficulties but in my case one of the difficulties was about language. \u00a0When I go to a store buying something it was very difficult for me to find what I want.\u00a0 The second difficulty was direction. \u00a0For the first month I could not find my way.\u00a0 I wanted to go from one location to other location but it was very difficult to find a way to get there.\u00a0 Trains and metros are very complicated.\u00a0 It is fine now but it was difficult for a while. \u00a0Japanese language is also difficult.\u00a0 I learnt a few words but I cannot communicate because it is really hard.\u00a0 I usually use English when I go to stores. \u00a0If the people do not understand what I am saying I just draw a picture and say “this is what I want.”<\/p>\nHow is your life in Japan and Waseda?<\/h3>\n
Everything is different and interesting for me.\u00a0 I remember one day before coming to Japan, my director in Afghanistan told me that you might get feel depressed easily in Japan because you don’t know the language and the communication is difficult.\u00a0 You may feel alone, he said. \u00a0But when I came here I found many friends not only Afghani friends but also other international students from China, Indonesia, Taiwan and many other countries. \u00a0Sometimes I join events of ICC and I think it is a great opportunity for international students to meet new friends. \u00a0Especially the events for culture show are interesting.\u00a0 Now everything is going well.<\/p>\n
What do you do in your free time?<\/h3>\n

<\/a>On my research I am quite busy but every Friday evening I go to TIC (Tokyo International Center) and play volleyball with my Afghani friends. \u00a0Also sometimes I go to Waseda gym. \u00a0I never played volleyball in Afghanistan but I started playing since I came here. \u00a0We do home party a lot.\u00a0 Sometimes I go to my friends’ house and sometimes they come to my place.<\/p>\nHow are the relationships with your supervisor and lab members?<\/h3>\n
