This symposium was held to showcase the achievements of the \u2018\u2019Multiscale Analysis Modelling and Simulation\u2019\u2019 Unit under the University\u2019s Waseda Goes Global Plan, an initiative funded by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture Sports, Science, and Technology&#8217;s (MEXT) Top Global University Project. The Multiscale Analysis Modelling and Simulation Unit planned to hold two international workshops to present the final results, and this workshop was the second in the series<\/p>\n<h4>This workshop has been held continuously since 2015 as one of the main activities of the Multiscale Analysis, Modelling and Simulation unit. In addition to researchers from Japan, those from the United States, Canada, and France came to Waseda to give presentations on their research in Multiphase Flows.<br \/>\nOn the first day, there were mini-courses and lectures by four researchers, and short presentations by four students. Professor Tayfun E. Tezduyar, a professor at Rice University and joint appointment professor at Waseda University, gave a lecture on stabilized methods and space\u2013time framework in computation of flows with moving boundaries and interfaces, including free-surface flows. Professor Yuto Otoguro at Tokyo University of Science gave a lecture on the space\u2013time and isogeometric analysis (IGA) of flows with complex geometries. Professor Junhui Yan of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign gave a lecture on free surface problems with IGA and fluid-structure interaction (FSI) analysis of offshore floating wind turbines. Yasutoshi Taniguchi gave a presentation on a formulation of the thickness of shell, Takahiro Ushioku cloud cavitation through experiments and numerical analysis, Shohei Mikawa on IGA -based on parachute flow analysis with an adaptive mesh refinement method, and Masahiro Adachi on non-trivial solutions and bifurcation structures in the steady state of the Lotka-Volterra cooperative Professor Artem Korobenko at the University of Calgary gave a lecture on multiscale method for cavitation analysis. In the next session, he gave a presentation on free-surface and cavitation analysis. Professor John A. Evans of the University of Colorado Boulder gave an introductory lecture on the preservation and robustness of the mathematical structure of the Navier\u2013Stokes equations in computational methods. Professor Yan gave a lecture on a formulation of thermal multiphase flow with the mixed interface-tracking\/interface-capturing method and the analysis of metal melting by laser. Professor Ionut Danaila of the Universite de Rouen Normandie gave a lecture on solid-liquid analysis using the Boussinesq approximated Navier\u2013Stokes equation and enthalpy model.
