Event Report on “Socioeconomic Networks and Network Science Workshop 2022”

On August 1-2, 2022, the Mathematics and Physics Unit Model Unit held the Socioeconomic Networks and Network Science Workshop 2022. We internationally invited various social science speakers using network science and wider complexity sciences methods to address social science questions, as well as those from STEM research fields who develop theory and algorithms for analyzing social and economic data related to networks. This was an online workshop, and we had 95 participants from 18 countries.

The topics presented include propagation of fake news in social media, quantitative analysis of citations and acknowledgments in networks of research papers, analysis of supply chain networks, evolution of social networks, quantification of business innovation using network analysis methods, and the Wikipedia ecosystem created by its editors, to name a few. Discussion sessions after the presentations involved discussion of future problems and casual interactions towards potential collaboration.

We will continue hosting international workshops like this, in order to promote interdisciplinary communication and to provide opportunities for students to meet researchers.
