Laboratory Focus<\/strong><\/h3>\n

At the Example-Based Machine Translation and Natural Language Processing lab (EBMT\/NLP lab) , we conduct cutting-edge research in natural language processing (NLP), with a focus on analogy, learning by examples, and machine translation.<\/p>\n

Our recent work on analogy explores:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Efficient computation of analogical powers using invariance in vector representations and algebraic functions.<\/li>\n
  • The interaction between analogy and machine learning, particularly in NLP applications.<\/li>\n
  • The capabilities of large language models (LLMs) in recognizing analogies and answering analogical questions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Our research on machine translation focuses on low-resourced languages, where data scarcity poses challenges for translation and language understanding. We explore:<\/p>\n

    • Data augmentation techniques to improve model generalization and translation quality.<\/li>\n
    • Enhancing models\u2019 ability to process low-resourced languages through analogies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Through a combination of theoretical exploration and practical experimentation, we strive to develop new insights and methodologies that advance NLP research.<\/p>\n

      Laboratory Environment<\/strong><\/h3>\n

      Under the guidance of Prof. Lepage, an expert in both computer science and linguistics, our lab fosters a collaborative research environment. His passion for NLP and commitment to teamwork make the lab an inspiring place to work. Our members come from diverse countries, including China and Poland, facilitating a dynamic exchange of ideas. With access to advanced computational resources, we actively push for new ideas, try different approaches, and tackle problems together. Prof. Lepage also actively supports our participation in international and domestic academic conferences to promote exchanges with external academics.<\/p>\n

      Our daily activities include running experiments, refining models, and analyzing results, along with interactive discussions that promote knowledge sharing and continuous learning. Regular seminars play a key role in our academic life, providing a platform for presenting research findings and receiving constructive feedback from lab members. These discussions explore the role of analogy in various applications, ranging from text classification to generation in NLP tasks, as well as the potential of LLMs in analogical reasoning.<\/p>\n
