About the Laboratory<\/h3>\n
The key term of Arakawa Laboratory is “multi-objective optimization.” Professor Arakawa compares it to a “Anywhere Door,” in machine cat, the famous Japanese animation,\u00a0<\/span>and just as the name suggests, it is a highly attractive tool that can be applied to various fields. Our laboratory mainly focuses on the application of this technology in design engineering.<\/span><\/p>\n Currently, there are 16 students in the laboratory, including 4 Japanese students and 12 international students. This group includes not only those proficient in design engineering but also students from various fields who have developed an interest in “optimization.” I also come from a mechanical engineering background and was drawn to the appeal of optimization. The main research theme of the lab is decided through discussions with Professor Arakawa, based on each student\u2019s interests. This allows us to research topics aligned with our individual passions. In my case, since I am interested in UI\/UX, I am working on “Engineering start with words”. \u00a0A study that aims to derive and optimize the products that customers wants from their language<\/p>\n <\/p>\n At Arakawa Laboratory, we hold seminars twice a week: group seminars and full lab seminars. In group seminars, students are divided into groups of 4-5 people, and each presents their research progress. Through these presentations, we receive feedback from Professor Arakawa and advice on future research directions, clarifying the path of our research. The group members also deepen their understanding of each other\u2019s research, leading to active exchanges of opinions and questions. During the full lab seminar, one member from each group\u2014four in total\u2014presents their research progress or conference reports to all the members of the lab. This serves as a place for sharing the lab members’ research content, trends, and insights, fostering an environment where flexible perspectives not confined to one’s own thinking or values can be nurtured.<\/p>\n If you are interested in multi-objective optimization, please visit Arakawa Laboratory.
