{"id":1754,"date":"2014-09-07T12:42:46","date_gmt":"2014-09-07T03:42:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/fsci\/gips\/?p=1754"},"modified":"2015-09-08T17:14:45","modified_gmt":"2015-09-08T08:14:45","slug":"lee-lab-welcome-to-our-laboratory-of-intelligent-control","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/fsci\/gips\/news-en\/2014\/09\/07\/1754\/","title":{"rendered":"Lee Lab &#8211; Welcome to our laboratory of intelligent control!"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Doctor course 6 years, Kun-Young HanOur Lee Laboratory conducts research into conventional classical and modern control, as well as intelligent control fusing areas of artificial intelligence such as neural networks, genetic algorithms, fuzzy logic, and learning theory.<\/p>\n<p>Principal areas of current research include<br \/>\n\u30fbDevelopment of control systems for low temperature-difference ultra-compact binary power plant that utilizes unused thermal energy generated by factories and hot springs \uff08Fig.1\uff09<br \/>\n\u30fbPosition estimation algorithms for self-driving cars that track vehicle position precisely in real time by combining Bayesian networks and Kalman filters(Fig.2)<br \/>\n\u30fbReal time-based probabilistic optimum control of traffic-signals,<br \/>\namong others.<\/p>\n<p>Our Lee Laboratory has seminars twice a week, research sessions every Friday where we discuss and report on research progress, and voluntary student-led seminars.<br \/>\n\u30fbAt seminars held twice a week, we introduce literature from around the world and hold discussions on specialized texts from overseas. Teachers and students actively engage in these discussions, and in doing so, expose problem issues, explore solutions, and bring forth new ideas. These seminars are of the greatest value in advancing research at the Laboratory.<br \/>\n\u30fbResearch progress discussion and presentation sessions every Friday take the form of one-to-one professor and student talks. These are opportunities for in-depth analysis of the progress of research and consideration of future directions and approaches.<br \/>\n\u30fbTo improve skills essential for research work, students hold intensive seminars on a voluntary basis during both summer and winter vacations to improve English technical writing skills needed for thesis writing and presentations, and learn computer languages such as C++, JAVA, and MATLAB, which are essential tools for simulations.<\/p>\n<p>Our Lee Laboratory also offers extracurricular events such as annual admission and graduation parties, New Year gatherings, and mountaineering trips to the Kuju range in Kyushu.
