If the expiration date passes even by one day, you will be staying illegally, so make sure to apply for the extension at the Immigration Bureau before the expiration date.<br \/>\n\u25cfWaseda University only handles extensions of period of stay for \u201cStudent\u201d status of residence.<\/h5>\n<h5 class=\"page-content__txt\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Please also refer to <\/span><a style=\"font-size: 16px;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cie-waseda.jp\/visastatus\/en\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Waseda University VISA STATUS<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"> .<\/span><\/h5>\n<\/div>\n<h4>Required Documents for Extension of Period of Stay<\/h4>\n<p>To apply for the extension of period of stay, the following documents must be submitted to the Immigration Bureau.<br \/>\nFirst, prepare documents 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 (and 9 for students extending their study period) in paper format, then take photos or scan them and submit the data to the IPS Office through <a href=\"https:\/\/my.waseda.jp\/application\/detail\/application-detail?communityContentLinkId=650304490\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[this application form](MyWaseda login required).<\/a><br \/>\nIf your documents are complete, the IPS Office will notify you by email to pick up the \u201cFor organization, etc.\u201d form.<br \/>\nAfter that, prepare documents 6, 7, and 8 in paper format and visit the Immigration Bureau to apply for the extension of period of stay.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/fsci\/gips\/assets\/uploads\/2025\/04\/IPS_extension-APPLICATION-FOR-EXTENSION-OF-PERIOD-OF-STAY.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Application for Extension of period of stay (PDF)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cie-waseda.jp\/visastatus\/en\/pdf\/1kikankosin_EX_en.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sample of Completed Application Form (PDF)<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Fill in all required fields on the three pages of the \u201cFor applicant\u201d section, referring carefully to the sample.<\/li>\n<li>Attach one photo taken within the past six months. The photo must be printed on photo paper, cut to the proper size, and affixed to the application form.<\/li>\n<li>If filling out by hand, use a black pen only. Erasable pens (such as Frixion) are not accepted.<\/li>\n<li>Double-sided printing is not allowed. Please print on one side only.<\/li>\n<li>When submitting the application to the Immigration Bureau, you need to submit a total of five pages:\n<p>-three pages of the \u201cFor applicant, etc.\u201d section, and<br \/>\n-two pages of the \u201cFor organization, etc.\u201d section issued by the university.<br \/>\nThe \u201cFor organization\u201d form will be issued by the IPS Office only after confirming that your submitted documents (by online) are complete.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>2.<span class=\"documents__heading\">Passport, Residence Card, Student ID (The address must match the one on your residence card.)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"documents__note -en\">\n<li>Only presentation of the original documents is required at the Immigration Services Agency of Japan (they will not be collected).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>3.Transcript of Academic Record (Online delivered destination-specific digital certificates are not acceptable.)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>(For new students)<\/em> If applying immediately after enrollment, a transcript from the school you attended in Japan before entering Waseda University is required.<br \/>\n\u21d2 If you attended a Japanese language school, both a transcript and a certificate of attendance are required.<br \/>\n\u21d2 If you were a Research Student or Non-Degree Student, documents certifying your research content, courses taken, and number of hours are required.<\/li>\n<li>Only certificates issued within the last three months are valid.<\/li>\n<li>Certificates from Waseda University can be requested via the Certificate Issuance Service (online application). The information in this document should be consistent with &#8220;22. Method of support to pay for expenses while in Japan&#8221; on the Application for Extension of Period of Stay form.<\/li>\n<li>A certificate of bank balance is not required for submission to the IPS Office. Submit only this form to the IPS Office. Additional documents may be requested by the Immigration Services Agency of Japan depending on your individual circumstances.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"documents__intro\">\n<p><strong><span class=\"documents__heading\">7.<\/span><span class=\"documents__heading\">Confirmation of Language Ability<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"documents__heading\"> (Only for applicable students.
