In 1997, completed the Doctoral Program in Economics at the City University of New York, and obtained a Ph.D. in Economics. After serving as a research fellow at Stanford University and the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), returned to Japan in 2000. After that, worked at Toyo Eiwa University and the National Institute of Population and Social Security Research, and since 2012 has been a\u00a0 Professor at the School of Political Science and Economics and since 2017 has been the director of the Waseda Institute for Social and Human Capital Studies (WISH) at Waseda University. Currently, holds positions such as deputy chair of the &#8220;Long -term Care Insurance Subcommittee&#8221; of the Social Security Council of the Ministry Health, Labour and Welfare, and member of the &#8220;Vaccine Subcommittee, Research and Development, and Distribution Subcommittee of the Council for Science and Technology&#8221; of the Health Science Council of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. In 2021, received the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology&#8217;s Prize (Research Category, Science and Technology Award) for empirical research to contribute to healthcare and welfare policies by creating scientific evidence.
