He studied Politics and International Relations at Waseda and the University of Oxford.<br \/>\nHe was the coordinator of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Core-to-Core Program, A. Advanced Research Networks, on \u2018The European Union and Japan in a Fluid Global Liberal Order: Establishing an Inter-Regional Studies Centre\u2019 from April 2018 to March 2024.<br \/>\nHis publications include \u2018Diffusing the Abolitionist Norm in Japan\u2019: EU \u201cDeath Penalty Diplomacy\u201d and the Gap between Rhetoric and Reality in EU-Japan Relations\u2019, JCMS: Journal of Common Market Studies, 59:5, 2021, pp. 1230-46; \u2018Ordinary\/Civilian, not Normative\/Post-modern: Lessons from the Japanese security policy\u2019, in Berkofsky, Axel, Christopher W Hughes, Paul Midford and Marie S\u00f6derberg (eds.)
