Upon completing graduate school in the U.S., I worked as a Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow at Georgia Institute of Technology teaching Japanese language courses and then worked as a Project Assistant Professor at the University of Tokyo for six years teaching courses in academic English and applied linguistics.<br \/>\nAs a mixed-heritage Asian American who grew up on the east coast of the U.S., I became increasingly interested in the intersections of language, race, and identity, particularly during the beginning of the COVID-19 epidemic. Currently, my research focuses on ways to help individuals question, dismantle, and unlearn racial and linguistic (raciolinguistic) ideologies that produce feelings of shame toward heritage and second-language abilities.
