She was awarded a Doctorate in Linguistics from the University of Hamburg, Germany,\u00a0 in 2007.<br \/>\nShe was appointed Lecturer and later Associate Professor at the Faculty of Political Science and Economics, Waseda University, before assuming her current position in 2009.<br \/>\nHer research focuses on paralinguistic information and phonetics in spoken language, with particular emphasis on learner phonetic acquisition. A central area of her work is the relationship between German modal particles and phonetics.
