This project brings together researchers from diverse fields\u2014including political science, psychology, sociology, and information engineering\u2014to exchange ideas and integrate knowledge across disciplinary boundaries. In doing so, it seeks to shed new light on the cognitive and decision-making processes of voters, which have long remained a black box. At the same time, the project addresses pressing social issues such as the influence of fake news and gender bias. Ultimately, it aims to establish Waseda University as an international hub for innovative political science research, particularly in the emerging field of experimental political science.
\nThe project introduces methods from psychology, neuroscience, and information engineering into political science. Experimental approaches include digitally manipulating the facial features and expressions of political candidates, as well as employing eye-tracking, visual measurement technologies, and biomarkers (physiological indicators) to capture and analyze people\u2019s responses in measurable ways. These methods will allow us to examine how nonverbal messages from politicians influence voter behavior, and to explore how these effects vary depending on the characteristics of both candidates and voters. Through such interdisciplinary collaboration, the project seeks to make original and socially meaningful contributions to the social sciences, and to political science in particular.
\nIn addition to these research activities, the project will host international workshops and symposiums at the Waseda Institute of Political Economy, inviting overseas and cross-disciplinary scholars to foster global academic networks. These initiatives will not only generate new interdisciplinary research themes within the university but also promote the development of Waseda as a leading global center for experimental political science.<\/p>\n
