\n \u3010Title\u3011Social networks of Indonesian farmers and their practices: comparing whole networks and their outcomes at the village level
\n\u3010Abstract\u3011Research suggests that networks of informal farmer-to-farmer communication influence their access to information and their decisions to adopt recommended agricultural practices. However, surveyed network data of agricultural information-sharing have mostly been available only for a small number of comparable villages in each dataset. Thus, until now, it was not possible to reliably empirically test what type of networks are effective overall. Previous research could only confirm which networks are effective at the individual-level (because the number of individuals in each dataset is always much larger than the number of whole networks in the dataset). However, the individual level of analysis has practical limits. For example, a finding that a person with more links tends to learn about innovations sooner cannot inform us about higher level policy-related questions, such as whether centralized or decentralized farmer groups work better. I will introduce our previous work on this topic in Indonesia and introduce a new project in which we have obtained network data from hundreds of villages that enables us to rigorously statistically compare the outcomes of information sharing network structure at the collective level for entire communities.<\/p>\n
