This study exams the contributions of the spouse, coined the \u201cspousal
\neffect,\u201din election campaigns in Japan.\u00a0 The research reveals the complex
\nparticipatory \u201cutility\u201d of the spouse based on geographic region,
\ngeneration\/age, sex, political party membership, voter expectations, tenure
\nin office and the level of elected office.\u00a0 Ultimately, the study shows that
\nthere are a number of stages, or levels at which the spouse participates in
\nthe election campaign.<\/p>\n
Moreover, the study credits the spouse as a valuable political asset in the
\nelection campaigns in a manner similar to other members of an election
\ncampaign team.<\/p>\n
