This research group seeks to advance a multifaceted understanding of Southeast Asia\u2014a region of growing importance in a changing world order\u2014across its political, economic, and social dimensions. Southeast Asia today stands at the crossroads of the major challenges of our time: the deepening US\u2013China rivalry, economic globalization and fragmentation, democratic backsliding and authoritarian persistence, and rapid growth accompanied by widening inequality. Through seminars, workshops, and symposia, the group will foster scholarly exchange with researchers in Japan and abroad, accumulate and disseminate knowledge grounded in the realities of the region, and aim to establish a hub for Southeast Asian studies at Waseda University.<\/p>\n
