\u00a0Imperial University<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\u8b1b\u6f14\u6982\u8981\uff1a<\/strong>
\nEstablished in 1924 as the sixth imperial\u00a0<\/span>university<\/span>\u00a0of Japan and the first within a colony,\u00a0<\/span>Keij\u014d<\/span>\/<\/span>Gyeongseong<\/span>\u00a0Imperial University functioned for twenty-one years as a critical site of intellectual production. During this period, the university\u00a0<\/span>maintained<\/span>\u00a0four economics-related professorships, engaging over twenty Japanese and Korean scholars as faculty or associates. Despite their significant output\u2014notably the creation of the “Korean Economy Research Institute,” which successfully generated a substantial body of knowledge\u00a0<\/span>regarding<\/span>\u00a0Korean economy\u2014the academic contributions of these scholars have\u00a0<\/span>remained<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>largely neglected<\/span>\u00a0in historiography compared to their counterparts at other imperial universities.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>

<\/span>This presentation addresses this oversight by examining the role of the\u00a0<\/span>Keij\u014d<\/span>\u00a0economists in the production of colonial economic knowledge. Although their work often served the administrative needs of the Government-General of Korea, they also\u00a0<\/span>sought<\/span>\u00a0to define the Korean economy as a distinct field of economic-historical inquiry, separate from earlier studies by Japanese economists. First, they redefined Korea not as a marginal peninsula, but as an economic space that could be investigated, interpreted, and improved through their own scholarly intervention. Second, they developed an on-site research infrastructure through large-scale surveys, statistical collection, and fieldwork.
