I am pleased to present an international symposium organized by the Waseda Institute of Latin American Studies, which will be held at our School next Friday (June 5), featuring nine speakers, five of whom have been invited from abroad. The conference will explore the circulation of texts across the transpacific networks linking Spain, New Spain, the Philippines, and Japan between the 16th and early 19th centuries. It will examine how commercial, religious, and diplomatic exchanges shaped the production, transmission, translation, and adaptation of manuscript and printed texts, as well as their interaction with Hispanic, Filipino, and Japanese cultural traditions.
