<\/b>Abstract:
\n<\/b>This article examines the relationship between interest groups participation in committee hearings during legislative debates and bills’ fate. We approach congressional lobbying as an informational dynamic in which reducing uncertainty about bills under debate is a necessary condition for changing the legislative status quo. Two hypotheses are derived. Firstly, bills are more likely to be approved due to repeated interaction: when groups and lobbies participating in committee hearings also participate more actively in all bills (Credibility and Repeated Interaction Hypothesis). Secondly, when there is conflict around a legislative proposal, operationalized as the presence of lobbies representing different sides, there is a lower probability of approval (Conflict Hypothesis). We test these arguments with data from the Chilean Congress (2014-2022). The evidence supports both claims.<\/p>\n
