The goal of this project is twofold. One is to explore methodological issues in Comparative Political Theory, with a special interest in the potential contributions of Japanese and East Asian scholarship to the latest Anglophone debates in the discipline. The other goal is to reconsider some of the ‘traditional’ concepts in political theory, such as liberty, equality and democracy, from a comparative perspective. As a new project launched in 2026, we place a strong emphasis on network-building, connecting scholars in relevant research areas both domestically and internationally. We will host a series of talks by invited speakers in the academic year 2026, made possible by generous support from the Sakurada-kai Foundation.<\/p>\n
