However, such approaches leave difficulties in the interpretation of estimates since outputs are in continuous scales. What does a 0.1-point difference in estimates indicate? This paper introduces a new dynamic measurement method that estimates latent variables in ordered scales from various response data. By coarsening latent estimates to discrete ordinal measures, the proposed method tracks the sharp changes in latent estimates and provides structural and qualitative interpretations of the estimates. The method also allows applied researchers to make probability statements since it is model-based. Simulation studies show the robustness and validity of the proposed method.
