This research presents new characterizations of the Boston school choice mechanism. We introduce three new axioms: rank-stability, rank-fairness, and weak fairness. Our first result shows that a mechanism satisfies rank-stability and weak fairness if and only if it is the Boston mechanism. Our second result shows that efficiency, rank-fairness, and weak fairness are sufficient to characterize the Boston mechanism.
