¡ØFemale employees in Japanese Subsidiaries in China: A Statistical Analysis Using Intra-firms Personal Data¡Ù

³µÍס§
This paper examines wage and managerial status determination
differences between male and female in Japanese subsidiaries in China
using intra-firms personal data obtained from three companies. We
focus on the issue whether female employees were exploited more than
they are in Japan. Unlike Japanese female employees, Chinese female
employees have almost the same length of tenure as male. From the
estimation of wage determinations and the probability to be a
managerial staff it appears that although having a child or being
married has a negative effect on female employees like in Japan,
female employees in the three companies under investigation have
higher probability to be a managerial stuff, compared with Japan.
These results indicate that tenure is important to decrease gender
gaps inside company in Japan.
