Short Bio
I graduated in German literature from Waseda University. After the graduate School, I studied about two and a half years at Tuebingen University (near Stuttgart), West Germany in 1980s. Then I returned to Waseda as lecturer for German language. After this, I could become a faculty member at School of Political Science and Economics. Currently, my special research fields are Opera and Music Theatre Studies and Germanic Studies. In recent years I could have the opportunity to stay at Institute for Theatre Studies of Free University of Berlin, Germany and at School of Music of Yale University, USA. The experiences during these stays are very informative for me. My present position is Professor (full) and I teach German language, Seminar for Interdisciplinary Studies, German Literature and Area Studies (Central Europe). At Waseda I have been over ca. 45 years including my student years. I keenly realize the change of people and time.
