The symposium will examine Japanese approaches to privacy including perspectives on Japanese notions of autonomy and personality development. This session will be consisted of two parts: present and future.<\/p>\n
1.”Present” would deal with how post-war economic, legal and constitutional development in Japan may have produced a society which has also since been seriously impacted by technologies such as the Internet and smart phones.<\/p>\n
2.”Future” would deal with the kind of privacy one would like to have in Japan during the next century: this would cover reinforcement of Japan’s constitution, new privacy safeguards in a comprehensive surveillance law as well as a beefing up of data protection laws in Japan.<\/p>\n
