Professor Christine Morin is a leading scholar of family and senior adult law in Quebec, Canada, and has published Chr. MORIN (dir.), Droit des a\u00een\u00e9s, Yvon Blais, 2020.<\/p>\n
The lecture on December 14 will discuss Quebec\u2019s new adult guardianship law, which was enacted in 2020 and came into force in 2022. The lecture will focus on the legislative process and application of the law. This revision was intended to address issues in response to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and resulted in the introduction into the civil code new systems of protection that did not comprehensively limit a person\u2019s legal capacity: the temporary proxy and resource person. In the lecture, Professor Morin will discuss her views on both practical issues, such as how capacity is assessed when determining legal guardianship, and theoretical issues, such as how the resource person system will affect the civil law, under the above revision.<\/p>\n
The lecture on December 15 will focus on Professor Morin\u2019s recent pioneering research on senior adult law in Quebec. Senior adult law has been the topic of discussion, particularly regarding questions such as how to define the concept itself, and whether it is even possible to conceive of senior adult law as a separate field of law. Professor Morin has emphasized the practical importance of legal professionals to take action in both research and education in the face of an aging society. In this lecture, instead, Professor Morin will give an overview of her vision of senior adult law, from the perspectives of how we are to conceptualize senior adult law as a discipline, and how interdisciplinary research in gerontology is affecting legal studies.<\/p>\n
