This presentation explores the central role kokugo (national language) ideology played in the articulation and promotion of imperial identity during the latter years of Japan\u2019s colonial rule, exploring how and why \u201cKorean\u201d literature was repositioned within a larger Japanese language canon. Although it is often understood that the k\u014dminka movement introduced a new paradigm of the \u201cimperial subject,\u201d who might be included in this category varied according to class, gender, ethnicity, and place. This presentation will elaborate on this point through a close comparative analysis of Kim S\u014fngmin\u2019s 1936 novella Hant\u014d no geijutsukatachi (Artists of the Peninsula) and its 1941 film adaptation Hant\u014d no haru (Spring on the Peninsula; dir. Yi Py\u014fng-il).<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \uff1c\u8b1b\u6f14\u8005\u30d7\u30ed\u30d5\u30a3\u30fc\u30eb\uff1e<\/p>\n \u30af\u30ea\u30b9\u30c6\u30a3\u30fc\u30ca\u30fb\u30a4\u306f\u30d6\u30ea\u30c6\u30a3\u30c3\u30b7\u30e5\u30fb\u30b3\u30ed\u30f3\u30d3\u30a2\u5927\u5b66\u65e5\u672c\u8fd1\u4ee3\u6587\u5b66\u5c02\u653b\u306e\u51c6\u6559\u6388\u3002\u30b3\u30ed\u30f3\u30d3\u30a2\u5927\u5b66\u3067\u65e5\u672c\u8fd1\u4ee3\u6587\u5b66\u306e\u535a\u58eb\u53f7\u53d6\u5f97\u3002\u7814\u7a76\u5206\u91ce\u306f1930\u5e74\u4ee3\u304b\u308940\u5e74\u4ee3\u306e\u690d\u6c11\u5730\u6642\u4ee3\u306e\u671d\u9bae\u4eba\u306b\u3088\u308b\u65e5\u672c\u8a9e\u6587\u5b66\u306e\u8208\u9686\u3068\u3001\u305d\u308c\u304c\u6226\u5f8c\u65e5\u672c\u30fb\u97d3\u56fd\u306e\u300c\u56fd\u6c11\u6587\u5b66\u300d\u3001\u300c\u5c11\u6570\u6c11\u65cf\u306e\u6587\u5b66\u300d\u306b\u95a2\u3059\u308b\u8a00\u8aac\u306b\u4e0e\u3048\u305f\u5f71\u97ff\u306b\u3064\u3044\u3066\u3002\u73fe\u5728\u306f\u3001\u6771\u30a2\u30b8\u30a2\u306b\u304a\u3051\u308b\u8fd1\u4ee3\u306e\u6587\u5b66\u30ab\u30ce\u30f3\u306e\u5f62\u6210\u904e\u7a0b\u306b\u304a\u3044\u3066\u3001\u3069\u306e\u3088\u3046\u306b\u8a00\u8a9e\u7684\u30ca\u30b7\u30e7\u30ca\u30ea\u30ba\u30e0\u3068\u56fd\u5bb6\u7684\u30a2\u30a4\u30c7\u30f3\u30c6\u30a3\u30c6\u30a3\u304c\u76f8\u4e92\u306b\u4f5c\u7528\u3057\u5408\u3046\u304b\u3092\u7814\u7a76\u3057\u305f\u8457\u66f8\u3092\u57f7\u7b46\u4e2d\u3067\u3042\u308b\u3002<\/p>\n Christina Yi is Assistant Professor of Modern Japanese Literature at the University of British Columbia. She received her Ph.D. in Modern Japanese Literature from Columbia University. Her research focuses on the rise of Japanese-language literature by Korean colonial subjects during the 1930s and 1940s and its subsequent impact on discourse regarding \u201cnational\u201d and \u201cethnic minority\u201d literature in postwar Japan and Korea.
