His research focuses on <em>Monogatari<\/em> Literature, including the <em>Genji monogatari <\/em>(<em>The Tale of Genji<\/em>). He has published two books on the <em>Genji monogatari<\/em> and one on the <em>Tsutsumi Ch\u016bnagon monogatari<\/em>, a collection of short stories from the late Heian period. On the other hand, he is also interested in issues related to the study of <em>Kokubungaku<\/em> in modern era, and has written a book on Fujioka Sakutar\u014d (1870-1910), a leading scholar of Japanese literature in the late Meiji period. He has also been involved in the editing of a number of other collections of essays. He also participated in the annotation series of <em>Genji monogatari<\/em> published by Shibund\u014d, and was an editorial collaborator on Iwanami Bunko&#8217;s <em>Genji monogatari<\/em> (9 volumes, 2017-2021), including \u2018Y\u016bgao\u2019, \u2018Wakamurasaki\u2019, \u2018Wakana no ge\u2019, \u2018Niou Hy\u014dbuky\u014d\u2019, &#8216; K\u014dbai&#8217;, \u2018Takekawa\u2019, and \u2018Azumaya\u2019 chapters. He received his B.A. in Western Philosophy from Waseda University, his M.A. in Japanese Literature from the same university, and his Ph.
