Nevertheless I will also raise further contemporary predicaments, such as Hegel’s logical contemplation of the world and Gadamer’s truly methodical trend.
In addition, my work intersects alternative fields such as aesthetics and literature, asking for example: “How might we distill the charm of a place or a person?”, “In what sense is design related to history?”, or “What are Japanese screens (屏風 byōbu) folding”?
Occasionally, I will devote further consideration to controversial transcultural problems, namely, the weakness of comparison, the perception of what is imperceptible, and the very resource of what appears “pre-mature”.

Recent Research Interest
I am a specialist of Contemporary and French philosophy, especially Henri Bergson and Maurice Merleau-Ponty. I recently initiated an international teamwork project regarding the edition of a huge fund of Merleau-Ponty’s unpublished manuscripts. By examining and interpreting the marginalia of authors in both Europe and East Asia (Michel Henry, Tang Junyi), I intimate that such detailed philological investigations can substantially stimulate philosophical elaborations. I thereby expect to contribute to a transcultural reflection on the archiving, transcribing, and translating process of texts, in line with Paul Ricœur’s phenomenological work on historical documents.
A strong current interest consists of implementing a meta-philosophical reading of the Contemporary tradition through the works of selected epigones (Gilles Deleuze, Martin Heidegger, and Emmanuel Levinas). By strategically emphasizing newly-minted ontological and ethical hermeneutical keys, such as “doubling”, “place”, and “substitution”, I intend to make an original contribution to philosophical research at Waseda University.

Profile
I received a MA (Diplôme d’Études Approfondies, DEA) in Robotics (Prehension Tests in Virtual Reality, 1996) and another in German Phenomenology (Husserl on Time Perception, 1997) at Paris-Sorbonne University. I was then awarded a Ph.D. on Nishida Kitarō’s concept of unification (統一 tōitsu/Vereinigung, 2005) at the École Pratique des Hautes Études in Paris (EPHE), followed by an Accreditation Thesis (Habilitation, HDR) entitled Merleau-Ponty On Metaphysics (2014) at Clermont-Ferrand University.
Teaching at Osaka, Dōshisha, Kanazawa, and Tsinghua University, I have been a visiting scholar at the International Center for Japanese Studies (NICHIBUNKEN) and Ritsumeikan University in Kyōto, as well as the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Academia Sinica in Taipei, as a research grant scholar of the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation (CCKF) in Taiwan.
I have forthcoming articles on intersubjectivity and Michel Henry, and recent works include a monograph on Deleuze, a full inventory of the new unpublished manuscripts (nouveaux inédits) of Merleau-Ponty, as well as studies addressing Michel Foucault on translation and Husserl on sedimentation.
