I am Yijen Wang, an Assistant Professor at the School of International Liberal Studies (SILS), Waseda University. I specialize in technology-enhanced language learning, with a particular focus on how artificial intelligence (AI) tools can support both learners and educators in academic settings. My work draws from diverse disciplines, bringing together applied linguistics, teacher education, and digital pedagogy. Having lived and studied in Taiwan and Japan, I am particularly interested in how sociocultural factors influence the adoption and perception of educational technologies. At SILS, I teach courses in Chinese language, language education, and research methods, and I enjoy integrating real-world topics and digital tools into the classroom. I look forward to collaborating with colleagues across disciplines at Waseda to develop innovative approaches to language education that reflect our increasingly digital academic landscape.

Recent Research Interest

My current research explores the role of generative AI in language teacher education and learner writing development. I am especially interested in how AI can be used to foster learner autonomy, teacher well-being, and more inclusive classroom practices. My recent work includes a research article published in System, which investigates Japanese EFL learners’ self-regulated use of AI tools in academic writing. I am also co-editing The Cambridge Handbook of Technology in Language Teaching and Learning and Insights into AI and Language Teaching and Learning, which bring together international scholars to explore how technology can be thoughtfully integrated into language teaching practices. As an editor and conference organizer, I also actively contribute to the academic community through journal and book series development, and by supporting emerging scholars in the field of CALL (Computer-Assisted Language Learning).

Profile

I received my Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics from the Graduate School of International Culture and Communication Studies (GSICCS) at Waseda University.
