I wasn\u2019t \u201cha\u0304fu\u201d or \u201ckikokushijo\u201d, and only being able to speak one language made me feel like an underdog. However, throughout my time at SILS I learned that no one can be perfectly compartmentalized. Being a true global citizen has nothing to do with the languages you speak or countries you\u2019ve been to, but about being able to Listen, understand, and empathize with people, no matter what background they are from.
