member of SILS in Waseda University since April 2004. I am actually teaching <strong>African<\/strong> Politics, EU politics and Public Diplomacy in the SILS and GSICCS. I am currently a member of board of Directors of the Africa Society of Japan and the AFRECO(Association Of African Economy And Development) which are very important Japanese associations related to <strong>Africa<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>I served as a Research Fellow in charge of African and European affairs at the Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA)(2000-2004). Before joining the JIIA, I was in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA) and served as a Special Assistant within the political section of the Embassy of Japan in France(1996-2000) to deal with the African affairs and Peace Process in the Middle East. I graduated from the school of the Political Sciences and Economics of Waseda University and completed the doctoral course (Political Sciences) of University of Paris I and Paris II. I obtained a PhD (in Political Science) from the University of Paris I (Pantheon-Sorbonne) in 2000 and obtained a special degree from the Institut des Hautes Etudes de D\u00e9fense Nationale (French Military School) in 2005. I served also as a Visiting Professor in Sciences-Po Paris three times (2008, 2015 and 2026). I am also a member of the Editorial Board on African Geopolitics. Selected recent articles: \u201cThe miliary coup in Burkina Faso and the crisis in Sahel\u201d(2022), \u201cAfrica and War in Ukraine\u201d(2022) , \u201cThe crisis in Africa and Russia\u201d(2023), \u201cNiger and Nigeria\u201d(2023) and \u201cDiplomacy of the South Africa\u201d (2025), etc.<\/p>\n<h3>Major Works \/ Publications Awards<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/w-rdb.waseda.jp\/html\/100000660_en.html\">https:\/\/w-rdb.waseda.jp\/html\/100000660_en.html<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Directed Research<\/h3>\n<p>Public Diplomacy may be defined as the diplomatic activity of governments in order to increase the presence of any country, to clean up the image of this country, and to promote a better understanding within the international society by influencing overseas publics. It is closely related to the conduct to appropriately inform foreign countries of government activity in a manner consistent with their own national interests and to set the international environment in their favor. In this class, we will particularly follow the foreign policies of Japan, European countries, the U.S., and <strong>African <\/strong>countries, and we will study the nature of their public diplomacy in a logical and pragmatic way.
