Directed Research

Public Diplomacy may be defined as the diplomatic activity of governments in order to increase the presence of any country, to clean up the image of this country, and to promote a better understanding within the international society by influencing overseas publics. It is closely related to the conduct to appropriately inform foreign countries of government activity in a manner consistent with their own national interests and to set the international environment in their favor. In this class, we will particularly follow the foreign policies of Japan, European countries, the U.S., and African countries, and we will study the nature of their public diplomacy in a logical and pragmatic way. We will also welcome researchers who want to study African affairs and students who are interested in working in MOFA, JICA, JBIC, JICS, and International Organizations, etc. Applicants will be expected to read not only English, but also French.
