Fields &amp; Number of Positions<\/b><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Fields of Specialization: The Waseda University Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies (WIAPS) seeks Assistant Professors (without tenure)\/Jokyo<i>\u00a0<\/i>specializing in one of the fields below with the Asia-Pacific region as their main geographical focus.<br \/>\nI: Area Studies<br \/>\nII:<b>\u00a0<\/b>International Relations<br \/>\nIII: International Development \/ Policy Studies<br \/>\nNumber of Positions: Two (Tentative)<\/p>\n<p><b>2. Duties<\/b><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">I. Research<br \/>\n1) Submitting a research plan and research and WIAPS activities reports respectively at the beginning and end of each academic year<br \/>\n2) Giving an academic talk on the current research project and submit a paper each year<br \/>\n3) Applying for<i>\u00a0<\/i><em>Grants<\/em><i>\u2013<\/i>in-Aid for Scientific\u00a0<em>Research\u00a0<\/em>(<em>KAKEN<\/em>)<i>\u00a0<\/i>each fall (if never received the Grant)<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">II. Responsibilities related to the Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies (GSAPS)<br \/>\nThe expected responsibilities include:<br \/>\n1) Partial teaching of courses as needed: Assistant Professor\/Jokyo may be asked to teach parts of a semester course (two courses per year at maximum) from the standpoint of faculty development to the extent that this does not result in an increase in the total number of courses offered at GSAPS.<br \/>\n2) Those related to subsidized projects including preparation of applications and implementation of projects<br \/>\n3) Those related to the management of\u00a0<i>The GSAPS Journal<br \/>\n<\/i>4) Serving as MA thesis examiner<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">III. Responsibilities related to the Waseda Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies (WIAPS)<br \/>\n1) Attending the WIAPS faculty meetings<br \/>\n2) Planning and organizing GSAPS\/WIAPS events<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">IV. Expected Date to Assume Duty<br \/>\n<\/b>April 1, 2019<\/p>\n<p><b>7. Period of Appointment<br \/>\n<\/b>\u3000Two Years (fixed-term appointment with no possibility for renewal)<br \/>\nFrom April 1, 2019 \u2013 March 31, 2021*<br \/>\n*For those with a fixed-term employment contract with Waseda University after April 1,<br \/>\n2013 (regardless of their title\/position) and without any lapse of employment at Waseda<br \/>\nUniversity of six months or more before the expected date to assume duty of this position,<br \/>\nan upper limit on the total length of fixed-term employment at Waseda<br \/>\nUniversity is placed. Therefore your actual contract period may not be identical to the period of duty indicated above.<\/p>\n<p><b>8. Salary and benefits<br \/>\n<\/b>In accordance with the regulations stipulated by Waseda University<br \/>\n\u27a2 Work hours: 4 days or more per week, up to 8 hours per day (up to 40 hours per week in total)<br \/>\n\u27a2 Salary: In accordance with the Waseda University regulations.<\/p>\n<p>[Example based on the 2018 regulations]<br \/>\nAnnual salary for a 27-29-year-old jokyo (pay grade 27-29): JPY 3,585,720 (before tax) (The salary will be paid in 12 monthly installments.)<\/p>\n<p>\u27a2 Benefits: Transit subsidy in accordance with the Waseda University regulations.<br \/>\nNo other forms of benefit such as bonuses or severance pay available<\/p>\n<p>\u27a2 Non-working days and holidays: Sunday; New Year holidays, national holidays and university holiday (except those on which Waseda University has scheduled to hold classes)<br \/>\n\u27a2 Vacations: Those mandated by the labor standards act and set by Waseda University (New Year holidays, summer recess etc.)<br \/>\n\u27a2 Social security: Employee\u2019s pension insurance, health insurance, nursing-care insurance, employment insurance, workers\u2019 accident compensation insurance<\/p>\n<p><b>9.<\/b><b>\u00a0Qualifications<br \/>\n<\/b>The Assistant Professors\/Jokyo is expected to actively participate in research and education activities of WIAPS and GSAPS and meet the following qualifications:<\/p>\n<p>1. Holding a Ph.D. degree at the time of the application deadline.<br \/>\n2.
